Frank Tarzi confirmed in an interview a couple of days ago that the OCN was found for it but that it was in very bad shape and that the new 4K restoration that they will be doing is going to be the costliest one that they have done.hearthesilence wrote: Wed Nov 22, 2023 8:46 pm It looks like the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Don Siegel, 1956) will be released on UHD per a header photo update on Facebook. Intriguing because the film doesn't look too good on Blu-ray - it had a very soft-looking transfer because Olive used what was essentially a dupe. Maybe the OCN was long-gone, but IIRC when the film was first distributed and exhibited, they cropped and blew up the original image capture in order to produce 2.00:1 Superscope prints, and that's what you get on Olive's Blu-ray. So my hope is, the OCN was located and a new 4K transfer was done from that, and at minimum they re-created the 2.00:1 crop digitally from the new transfer in order to avoid generational loss, and hopefully they also include the full-frame transfer just in case people want that.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I don’t think they’ve issued a slipcover that wasn’t just a reprint of the case image before now, at least for UHDs. KL’s 4K slips are already strongly coveted (for some reason), I suspect this will only boost that market

I'm legitimately gonna preorder it, I think it looks sharp. plus I really do try and support KLSC's UHD endeavors. as Tarzi has said, the more people who try and buy early (before the sales) to get the slips, the more they can put outtherewillbeblus wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 4:26 am I don’t think they’ve issued a slipcover that wasn’t just a reprint of the case image before now, at least for UHDs. I support their UHDs because the ratio of good films on that line is better than their blu-ray announcements

I highly doubt Criterion (or Arrow, Shout, et al) will let that happen again
I'm impressed by 114 titles. between Arrow, Kino, and Criterion I'm wondering how much of the Paramount catalog can be picked through. exciting/intriguing that KLSC is going through the older Olive titles with new transfers, curious to see what we'll get

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
All those Criterion Blus that Kino released on UHD were from MGM, who seem to be the only studio that splits Blu-ray and UHD licenses like that.
Kino Insider also said that one of the new Paramount titles they licensed was previously with another label who were unable to release it.

I get those two mixed up constantly in terms of rights. at this point, they just need releases. Indicator would be choice for Hail the Conquering Hero if there's any issues with Kino releasing. Morgan's Creek would be a great shout for KL thoughcaptveg wrote: Fri Nov 24, 2023 7:25 pmHail the Conquering Hero is with Universal. I'm really hoping the Daisy Miller release means we may see a UHD of Paper Moon sooner rather than later. fantastic news either way - and they're announcing the silent tomorrow!

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
The illustrious Sturges scholar Brian Henderson, along with Sandy Sturges, James Harvey, and, recently, Donald Spoto, are all sadly and unfortunately no longer with us. But that leaves, per Amazon, Stuart Klawans (Sturges book out just last year!), Tom Sturges, James Curtis, Andrew Horton, Alessandro Pirolini, Andrew Dickos, Jay Rozgonyi (at least I think he's still living), James Ursini, Leonard Maltin (i guess haha), Angel Comas, Diane Jacobs, Marc Cerisuelo, undoubtedly Joseph McBride, and no doubt some qualified others to do the commentaries and video thingies. Yes I googled and whatnot to see these person's statuses re: living, it was mildly torturous.captveg wrote: Fri Nov 24, 2023 7:25 pm Hail the Conquering Hero is with Universal. I'm hoping that means that von Stroheim's THE WEDDING MARCH will finally be getting the Blu-Ray I've been waiting for since that restoration happened.
