this must be the first time a movie doesn't have an English language Wikipedia page but is getting a UHD release

Great news! This also got the Takashi Miike remake treatment in 2005 as a staged Noh opera version!

Jealous of the timeline that gets the release where these are together.

The Miike is a really good and different film. I went on a Shinoda kick last year and this was a definite standout.

Is this the first release to have a transfer supervised by an actor? I think the only one supervised by a producer is Insignificance

This was a dud for me, the theatrical elements just felt like a poor fit for the material and I felt constantly alienated by its application of artifice. I hate throwing around words like "boring" to describe movies, but this just wasn't very interesting, was devoid of compelling characters or story, and lacked a strong formal ambition. Hopefully the movie works better for others

I would guide away from Shinoda's Double Suicide then, where if the title had not given it away already the main couple even see their corpses laid out at the beginning of the film and all of the characters get literally puppeted about by handlers towards their inevitable doom!

I actually like that one (and everything else I've seen from him), so who knows!

I was lukewarm on Demon Pond too when I saw it decades ago (like therewillbeblus I found the stylization static in this case, whereas it's fabulously dynamic in many other Shinodas), but it was my first Shinoda and it's well overdue a revisit, so I'm delighted to see it being released.
