Awful movie, but I suppose it was inevitable from some label given the stars

Is this a movie discussed in Sleepless in Seattle?

I haven’t seen that one, so can’t help there. I will say that one night Houseboat was playing on all the TVs in a popular Italian restaurant here and I somehow impressed a table of important clients by knowing what it was in the only movie-related W of my brief corporate career

I think you’re thinking of An Affair to Remember which also has Cary Grant.

You can’t make this shit up. One of the objectively worst films ever made, Reindeer Games, is coming to UHD

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Definitely a poor movie and a pitiful way for John Frankenheimer to end his career (the nearest equivalent I can think of is
John Schlesinger's final feature The Next Best Thing. Saw this in the theater back in 2000 and it's probably just as bad
now as it was then. I suppose Kino is hoping to attract buyers with Ben Affleck and Charlize Theron featured prominently

The movie is to twists like a chef saying “Salt makes this dish taste better, so what if I put in five times the salt, that will make it five times tastier”

The end of Frankenheimer’s theatrical output, but he did make one final work for HBO, Path to War.JSC wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:17 pm Definitely a poor movie and a pitiful way for John Frankenheimer to end his career (the nearest equivalent I can think of is

I’ll take Reindeer Games over The Next Best Thing, that’s for damn sure. Both films were absolutely miserable experiences for everyone involved

For some reason I thought Cold Comfort Farm (an excellent adaptation that nails the spirit of the novel and has some inspired casting coups) was Schlesinger’s last film and looking at Wikipedia I wish I’d kept that fantasy going because yikes

I absolutely adore Cold Comfort Farm as well.

According to Schlesinger's biography Edge of Midnight, the experience of making The Next Best Thing was so
miserable that it precipitated the decline in his already frail health. But hey, it won Madonna a Razzie!

I saw Margaret Cho at a screening of Darling some years back, and she discussed her close friendship with him. He basically was one of the Jeep-riding gay men in Honky Tonk FreewayJSC wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:07 pm According to Schlesinger's biography Edge of Midnight, the experience of making The Next Best Thing was so

Madonna and Rupert Everett scared Alex Cox into rushing Sid & Nancy into production, as they were about to make their own take on the story

I leave open the slim possibility that the UK label didn't notice language in their contract that gave the licensor the rights to any special features that were created by the licensee.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
It's certainly a possibility, although you'd have thought that the UK label would have checked this before making a public accusation.
But this is why my plan to give away my commentary for The Night of the Shooting Stars foundered - Arrow, for whom I originally recorded it back in 2016, had no problem with the idea (their disc was OOP and they'd lost the rights, so had absolutely no reason to hang onto it), but then they checked the original contract and found that Cohen now owns it, thanks to precisely that type of clause in the original licensing deal. At which point I gave up.

Well, that's potentially an easy birthday present for my wife (it's one of her all-time favourite films), provided "early 2025" is sufficiently early.dwk wrote: Sat Nov 02, 2024 3:25 pm Houseboat (1958) Blu-ray

Kino insider posted at the Blu-ray.com forum that MGM said they could use the interview.

Is it possible the contract for the UK release stipulated any extras produced for the release belonged to the studio?

It feels odd that they would call this out now months after the original release (not to mention, the specs have been known since May).

They tried reaching out to KL for months to get this settled but to no avail: https://x.com/plumeriapics/status/18535 ... 72544?s=46.ChunkyLover wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 6:32 pm It feels odd that they would call this out now months after the original release (not to mention, the specs have been known since May).
KL got the interview from Plumeria “in good faith” and not through MGM. They also confirmed on Twitter that MGM does not own the interview.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Supposedly the Director's Cut of this is the best version of the film (haven't seen the film, so I can't say if that's true or not), but KL won't be adding it to the 4K disc.domino harvey wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:08 pm You can’t make this shit up. Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Kino just updated their Facebook cover photo showing a cropped image taken from the Airport '77 poster.
Honestly I was always hopeful that Shout or at least Arrow would be releasing this and/or Airport '75 as the campy-aspects to films are not always handled well by Kino in their supplements, also, Shout usually goes that extra mile on including the alterative TV-specific scenes. Hopefully Kino clarifies if they are releasing this individually or in a box set with the others in the franchise.

They've confirmed on Facebook that it's a box set with all four.
