Vinegar Syndrome has never interested me but, if anyone has any recs worth adding to my preorder of Looking for Mr. Goodbar to qualify for free shipping I'm listening.
Have you gotten anything from Fun City Editions, an old partner label of theirs? Lots of great indie American cinema (though not just that). I'd especially recommend their releases of
Jeremy, I Start Counting!, and
Married to the Mob (of course)
I have purchased a few through Radiance including Married to the Mob.
Michael and others shouting out Deaf Crocodile is cool because I don't think I've ever picked up a release of theirs. These are all great recs for many films I've never heard of and a reminder to watch the Icarus titles I've purchased. Now I just need to figure out which ones I should purchase directly thru VS or from some place like DD. That, and getting over feeling insane for still spending so much money on blurays. I just forked over $200+ to Indicator.

Oh I almost forget that Vinegar Syndrome also has The Candy Snatchers which is a darkly comic piece of Grindhouse cinema verging on Tarantino. Also Deaf Crocodile is most definitely worth your time, fantastic company. Kin-Dza-Dza and The Unknown Man of Shandigor being my recommendations from them.

They have a half off sale later this month so I’d wait a little bit before price matching (though it’s only for titles 6 months and older).

Can anyone speak to Jiří Havelka’s The Owners from partner label, Big World Pictures? It sounds like something up my alley, and very early Milos Formanesque, but being Canadian, I’m trying to be more selective in my $40 blind-buys since these are all imports.

I can’t directly speak on it but it does seem very similar to Eldar Ryazanov’s The Garage (as mentioned previously in this thread and one I really love), so I’d recommend starting off with that because if you enjoy that you’d probably like this too.

Please consider picking up AGFA’s Jon Moritsugu collection. He’s one of the most distinctive and entertaining American filmmakers we’ve got, and it’s an incredible bargain considering how many features are on it

VS posted an image of some inventory containing the unannounced titles heading to their warehouses but quickly deleted it once a reddit user was able to find that one of the unannounced titles is for Corey Yuen's
Women on the Run. I saw this film a couple years ago and thought that it was an alright film with decent action scenes until it reaches the
, a scene that's so outlandish and in such bad taste (even by HK standards) that it just left a really bad impression even after the film ended. I wish they were releasing a different Corey Yuen film, like
Ninja in the Dragon's Den.

Co-sign everything. Women on the Run is pretty lame. I felt bad for the women involved, who were clearly talented but just being exploited by the filmmakers, including being forced to perform fight scenes completely naked with no attempt to hide or obscure anything (everything's in medium shots). Even the fight choreography was meh by Yuen's standards. I don't know why he felt the need to try his hand at low rent exploitation.
Ninja in the Dragon's Den is sorely in need of a rescue. An amazing debut.

I'll second that.
I purchased the collection when it first became available having only ever seen
Terminal USA years ago and loving it. That still holds up so well and
Fame Whore was simply brilliant. Moritsugu is s singular talent.

I think the Cinematographe that’s due on Black Friday is bound to Minnie & Moskowitz not only because one of the hints specifically because it’s been established it’s now the oldest film in the lineup (Thieves Like Us was from ‘74) but the newsletter taunts a long-lost director’s cut of the film (Cassevetes’ cut had an opening scene removed which never appeared in a DVD release). So I think M&M is in the bag.

Universal supposedly recut it in violation of the Final Cut contract Cassavetes received. I truly hope you’re right

Several options for secret titles
1. The Keep and The Prophecy (1979) (+ unrated)
2. Jade (+ unrated) and Return to Horror High

I’m not sure that has a director’s cut though so it’s probably not that.

That's a comedy though and the 2 art teases they've released so far look bleak and gloomy

Have you actually seen it? I mean, it's lighter than the average Cassavetes but it's hardly a riotous thigh-slapper.

Maybe Badge 373 had some director's cut, who knows. Neo-noir, New York, rain, neon signs...

I know I shouldn't be the one to say this, but after all this wait time for Goodbar and The Keep, those were the best covers they could do?

No deleted scenes from The Keep or Sliver, which has one of the most infamous and well-documented alternate endings ever? Talk about let-downs

I assumed The Keep would be barebones, and so I was very pleasantly surprised that there were any extras at all. But I'd have been astonished if there was any deleted footage, because presumably such a thing would require Michael Mann's permission, and he's made it very clear that he wants nothing to do with the film any more.

Is it not the case that they would have needed Michael Mann's permission anyway? Certainly when Kino licensed it, the reason they gave for dropping it was that, under DGA rules, Mann's consent would need to be given for a new transfer to be made and he was blocking this from happening.
Which is why I'm surprised this was happening at all! I think some folks got excited from this
tweet (or whatever we call them now) where it appears Paramount had done something with a workprint.
