Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
I think based on the other clues we’ve been given we can definitely confirm WN3 as another World Noir alongside the Oshima set and probably confirm Dai as another Daiei Gothic set & Shin as another Shinobi set.

Thinking out loud and trying to match them up with some of the prior clues:
NB could be Le notti bianche and LTT could be La terra trema
HIS - Histoire(s) du cinema
POL + New French Extremity UHD = Pola X
ATOS - A Tale of Sorrow and Sadness

Great guesses. My favorite films from Carax and Suzuki

Given we also have 'VS' as a clue now, I'd bet this is correctdadaistnun wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2024 1:10 pm Clue at the bottom of the new release email: "Next month who knows!" Going to excitedly assume this means Va Savoir+.

Considering how well L’amour fou seems to have sold for the label, it seems like a no-brainer. I’d be all over it.

Va Savoir is pretty much a dead cert now (will be amazed if either clue isn't for that), and Pola X is a very good guess for the "POL" clue (was hoping the New French Extremity would be for Carax or Denis or something like that).

BET could probably be for Tokuzō Tanaka’s The Betrayal.

PAL surely would be that new 4K restoration of Palindromes, right? hopefully a UHD after how quickly Radiance sold through Welcome to the Dollhouse and we know Criterion's Happiness has done well
GWS is likely Girl With a Suitcase, the Cardinale title we speculated

IMDB has Radiance listed as having the UK VOD rights to Palindromes, so you are probably right.ryannichols7 wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:49 pm PAL surely would be that new 4K restoration of Palindromes, right? hopefully a UHD after how quickly Radiance sold through Welcome to the Dollhouse and we know Criterion's Happiness has done well

Wow, what a spot! Excited for more Solondz, recently picked up Happiness 4K (still my favourite of his films) and found I had a copy of Storytelling on DVD in storage.dwk wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 9:10 pmIMDB has Radiance listed as having the UK VOD rights to Palindromes, so you are probably right.ryannichols7 wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:49 pm PAL surely would be that new 4K restoration of Palindromes, right? hopefully a UHD after how quickly Radiance sold through Welcome to the Dollhouse and we know Criterion's Happiness has done well

For the record Palindromes is the only one that hasn’t been released yet.

Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
Might MAL be Tropical Malady? It's had a relatively recent 4K restoration and no blu-ray release yet, and it would fulfill the Sight & Sound list clue. Other than the previously guessed Godard, I don't know what else the Sight & Sound clue would be based on these acronyms and abbreviations.

Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
I think the Second Run DVD of Tropical Malady is still in print, but that's not to say that the new restoration won't go elsewhere.
I don't have any better ideas for MAL. Deville's La maladie de Sachs came to mind but if/when Radiance ever do release a Deville, I'd be surprised if that was the first one.

Could be a sensible start, though. Its materials look wonderful so there wouldn’t be any restoration work needed, and it’s also one of his greatest films - for my money, the best of Deville’s post-80s worksCalvin wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 4:54 pm I don't have any better ideas for MAL. I just checked, and Tropical Malady is shown as out-of-print on the Second Run homepage https://www.secondrundvd.com/browse.html.

Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
I assumed Tropical Malady would come from Second Run, or failing that Criterion. There was talk of restoration being done on most of Apichatpong's earlier works (I'd assume Blissfully Yours and Syndromes and a Century as well), so I figured Second Run would be tracking those, and eventually come out with a box set (and maybe throw in Mekong Hotel as well).
Did they go into detail this time about why they couldn't do them? I seem to remember they said why Four Nights of a Dreamer wasn't possible (maybe on Discord), and was there a rumour about Rozier and Criterion or am I making that up?
Real shame about Suzuki, Bresson and Petri specifically (had hoped Pistol Opera would've at least been possible). Not heard of them before but The Devil Queen, The Fall of Otrar, Splendid Outing and The Ninth Circle sound particularly interesting too.Calvin wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 5:26 pm The 'failed licences' list for 2024 is also in the 'zine:
