The Fall of Otrar, the Rozier films, and Four Nights of a Dreamer are with Janus so if they get released it will most likely be through Criterion but a real shame about the others.

Too bad about The Devil Queen but nice to see a label at least trying at Brazilian cinema. Rozier is unfortunately with Criterion.

I don't trust Criterion to prioritize the Roziers or release them all in one box as Radiance likely would have done

We'll probably get Adieu Philippine on disc and the rest relegated to their channel sadly.

Why wouldn’t they? They did release all the Rohmer seasonal films together and based on the fact they titled their retrospective Chronicler of Summer it seems that they’d probably release them in a similar set to that.

Probably because of The Mother and the Whore release. Though I personally doubt we will see the Rozier titles split up and can see them all in one box (that is if they ever decide to do a physical release).

What Oshima titles could potentially be on the docket? The Catch? Band of Ninja?

We already know they have the rights to The Man Who Left His Will on Film. I'm going to assume that this is going to be a U.K. only set since Criterion have the rights to most of his films. We can cross off Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and In the Realm of the Senses from being added to the list since Arrow and Criterion have the rights respectively.

The Ninth Circle particularly stings as the folks from the archive seemed quite friendly when it was screened in Bologna a few years ago. I absolutely loved it and had hoped that someone like Second Run would put it out in the years since, along with the other Yugoslav restorationsImageImage

I know there are problems with getting films from Mosfilm (unless that’s only for America) but I do hope that Radiance is able to release Walking the Streets of Moscow because that could potentially mean more releases for films like Afonya or Beware of the Car or I Am Twenty (which features a cameo by Tarkovsky of all people) that have been basically forgotten in the West despite strong followings in Russia.

I wonder when these requests were made. I don't remember requesting anything recently but several of these titles are high on my wish list

I honestly thought of that as well. Why the hell not?
BBFC classification fees would be truly eye-watering. And while the unsimulated sex might get passed with a normal 18, there's never any guarantee.

Someone pointed out the SHIN clue could be for Shinoda which mean that clue’s for Himiko since we know the same studio (Art Theatre Guild) is allowing Radiance to release The Man Who Left His Will on Film. And in turn we can guess that the other titles in the Oshima will be Boy and The Ceremony since they also are credited to that same studio.

I wouldn't assume that this means Second Run no longer have the rights, several of their DVDs have gone out of print on the site and gotten Bluray upgrades. I still believe they'll be the rightsholders for the two Apichatpong titles

I would be very happy with a Radiance release of Himiko. basically a title made for the label

I hope the animated title is the recently restored Angel’s Egg or The Plague Dogs

I feel like Angel's Egg has been one of the most in-demand titles for some time, I've seen it requested for just about every label. would make for a good hard box set if it came to Radiance

I didn't post above but I have been really convinced Daughters of Darkness is happening. UHD titles have to be big, marketable titles (for a label of this size) and that one is, also fitting the Radiance feel a bit with Delphine Seyrig. plus it only has a stateside 4K, no UK release yet

It was a while back - it hadn't (and probably still hasn't) been restored, so there's no HD master available.

Funnily enough, that was back in September 2022 when Fran also commented that he "found some Deville. But not restored.... when we have enough of a following, perhaps we will undertake it."

As I've mentioned already, the BET/samurai classic clue could be for The Betrayal and if a Theo Angelopoulos release came, that would also be the hint for the slow cinema masterpiece (selfishlessly hoping for The Travelling Players). As for the other clues, the couple serial killers hint could point to Strangler vs. Strangler, although that's not supported by the letter clues and maybe the ghost story could be The Story of Marie and Julien since we know Radiance is releasing a couple Rivettes.

Oh damn now my hopes are up for Angels Egg to be released by anyone this year.

MAL could stand for Tropical Malady and that could overlap with the “slow cinema masterpiece”

I sure hope so as I consider myself Apichatpong’s number one stan.
