Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Does anyone know if the UHD of Werkmeister Harmonies includes a blu ray disc of the film? I just cannot find any info on this. Thanks in advance.

Yes. The BD’s mentioned twice at Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Werckmeister-H ... 0DBHYCXJX/

It looks as if it has been updated since I last looked. Thanks Nicolas.nicolas wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 1:31 pmYes. The BD’s mentioned twice at Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Werckmeister-H ... 0DBHYCXJX/

What the...? Then this set is completely useless to me. May get the Werckmeister Harmonies UHD depending on the quality.

Interesting. HD materials obviously not available. Still, pretty complete.

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Autumn Almanac in SD is especially painful, that was essentially the only tangible motivation I had to splurge on this set. The earlier films are fine, but they're not the ones I'd return to. Ah well, at least I saved some $$$.

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Wasn't Macbeth shot on SD video anyway, as it was made for Hungarian television? That's presumably the only way that the second and final shot of the film could be 67 minutes long. (Highly likely the longest take of the pre-HD era.)

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Sadly, I can't justify this any more. I have most of the films in HD already courtesy of Arbelos, Carlotta and indeed Curzon Artificial Eye, and most of those have Fidelity in Motion encodes that they presumably won't be getting here.
Buying the Peter Strickland box purely for Katalin Varga and the shorts was enough extravagance for this year!

I already sold two of my out of print Tarr DVDs (for very good prices) to justify buying this, so I'm committed now.

Macbeth is indeed natively in SD video, but the two SD features aren't.

The best encoding house out there, founded and run by David Mackenzie. I've been lucky enough to work with him on at least 90% of my own projects (almost certainly an underestimate), and he'd be my first choice every time.

Is this set the first Blu-Ray release of The Man from London?

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Yes, and that's the only one that I don't already have in high-def, although it's a long way from my favourite Tarr.
If that, The Prefab People and Autumn Almanac had been in HD, that would probably have sold the box to me.

To be clear, though, those films are not available anywhere in HD, right?

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Those three aren't, no. But Family Nest, The Outsider, Damnation, Sátántangó, Werckmeister Harmonies and The Turin Horse all are, and I have them already.

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
I've received the Curzon Tarr box. I've just watched Family Nest, but it's a huge improvement on the Criterion encode. Haven't checked out anything else yet.

nicolas also highly praised the box over on the other forum. I'm gonna have to weigh a purchase, even though I'm very satisfied with the Arbelos/Criterion/Cinema Guild releases stateside

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Question on either the Peter Strickland box set from Curzon, or The Duke of Burgundy Artificial Eye Blu-ray disc (which is the one included in the box.
The booklet description for The Duke of Burgundy says the disc includes two extras that do not seem to be on the disc. Are they Easter Eggs? If so, what’s the path to them?
• Q&A with Peter Strickland, Sidse Babbett Knudsen & Chiara D’Anna
• Perfume Advert
There is a different extra on the disc which is neither of the two missing features, and it is not mentioned in the booklet:
• Mole Cricket Field Notes (two pages of text and a stills gallery video)
Are they maybe somewhere on the bonus disc? I haven’t yet scoured that. Anyone know? Were they maybe planning on a different pressing for this disc?

Haneke season planned at the BFI in partnership with Curzon in June, probably accompanying a box set release as with Tarr/Von Trier etc. One of the long rumoured ones!

Re: Artificial Eye / Curzon Film World
Hopefully, that's the one I've actually been hoping for the most! I will probably get the Tarr one (and maybe Strickland) eventually, but not in a rush, whereas I'm much more likely to get this one sooner. I would've snapped up the Wenders one when it was reduced, but hear the transfers are hit and miss on that so waiting for a drastic reduction before I bite.

Orbit has listed the next Curzon Film™ 4K to be Orlando, in case you don't wanna buy the Sony Pictures Classics set
please let there be individual 4Ks for Code Unknown and Cache....

A Sally Potter box set would be incredible, and I thought that a number of her films were with Sony.
