How dare he! Did he say why he would decline such a major noir?
In the video, he says that he just doesn’t have time to do a proper job on the commentary.

A post at the Home Theater Forum claims that the Criterion people at SXSW confirmed that Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me UHD is coming in November.

Are there any Lynch films (Dune? Wild At Heart?) Criterion can't get the rights to? He's a prime candidate for a comprehensive box set.

They'll probably pick up Wild at Heart if they can and haven't already

Shout's Wild at Heart has been removed from their webstore, so it likely is now OOP

I imagine that it's a pipe dream to assume that Disney would let Criterion have The Straight Story right?

I think it's *less* likely now that we've lost Lynch and his direct connection with Criterion, but I don't think it's out of the realm of discussion, especially if his estate gets involved.

Did I by chance miss something in regard to There Will Be Blood being announced as forthcoming? Saw a few twitter accounts, most notably We Love Physical Media, saying that it was coming to 4K UHD soon.

nothing official, just from that unsourced tweet. 3rd recent leak of future release (if true): TWBB, FWMM, Flow (confirmed).

I thought all along There Will Be Blood would be a possibility for a Criterion UHD release because of it’s absence from the format

as with No Country For Old Men, I feel like Paramount would've released There Will Be Blood by now in the presents line if they were indeed putting it out. PTA might be working with Criterion on it. would be wild to have that instead of Hard Eight (which Kino will release) after all those questions he used to get about it coming to Criterion

These random Twitter accounts don't have any real sources. They never cite where they go their information, but it is always based on online retailer listings, festival screenings, library acquisition, etc.

There were some European Paramount 4K UHD listings for TWBB from Germany a year or two ago, which likely turned into "Criterion must be releasing this in the US" type of speculation.

Bill Hunt expects a Barry Lyndon 4K UHD by "July or August." While he doesn't mention Warner or Criterion I gotta think it'll be an upgrade for Criterion.

I don't particularly trust Hunt (or these other Twitter sources) and think they just make pretty good guesses. Barry Lyndon being a July sale title makes a lot of sense to me, much like There Will Be Blood happening at some point does. but this time, I don't see a reason for Warner to do Barry Lyndon themselves, especially with Eyes Wide Shut still sitting on the bench

Hunt recently posted about how he predicted a Tombstone 4K release would happen, except he talked about this in 2021, 4 years ago, and there's only a fine line between actively having some early knowledge of what's going to appear on the market and simply repeating something until it happens (like he did with the Cameron 4Ks) and calling yourself a psych.

Re Barry Lyndon: didn't someone post a picture of an announcement by WB a while back saying a 4K release was slated for December 2025? Or was it decided that that was fake?

I believe the photo you’re talking about is the one below which has Barry Lyndon with a December 2025 date because it’s an anniversary release of it and not specifically related to any 4K announcement.

Yes, that's what I remembered seeing; thank you for digging it up! You're right, I guess it's simply noting that it's the 50th anniversary of BL, but not a confirmation of a 4K upgrade. Fingers crossed that Criterion is able to do something with it.

Hopefully, Dog Day Afternoon is also coming to Criterion in 4K.

Speaking of 50th Anniversaries, isn’t The Man Who Would be King also with WB? This would also look great in 4K. Surprised this isn’t mentioned anywhere.

Yes, it is WB. They love Huston, and I do hope that The Dead can be licensed from Lionsgate

Criterion handling Barry Lyndon, Dog Day Afternoon, and Private Benjamin in 4K wouldn't surprise me. Maybe I'm nuts but I wouldn't be shocked if they released a 4K of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

It would be an absolute dream to have Pee-Wee by Criterion. One of my all time faves and since Paul’s passing I have personally seen more and more people give it the love it deserves.

I wonder if Warner archive would do a 4K for Caddyshack similar to The Searchers or they will make it a mainstream release

I also love Pee-Wee and would be thrilled to have Criterion release it. It is also probably the only reasonable Tim Burton film they could release since Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands are both owned by Disney.
