Nowhere else really to put this, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Mill Creek release that ever made me pause before.

Until now.

This may just be the best designed physical media release they’ve ever produced.

This would be bad enough for one of the wretched remakes or sequels (or whatever iterations the "IP" is up to now for the audience of mouthbreathers) but this is apparently for the original. I don't recall anything about the Mexican Day of the Dead, or weird eastern European folk horror in DePalma's flick... there even appears to be an artist's signature (!) despite the image bearing all the hallmark non sequiturs of bad AI art.

That "Carrie" Dia de los Muertos cover is part of a re-release promotion from 2016 or 2017. The art was just a postcard shrink-wrapped in with the case. If you'd like to see the other releases given this treatment, check out this link. https://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3459 ... e-posters/ They were selling posters of these! Very much pre-AI stuff.

More so this is an example of art that was stolen and used to train generative ai programs

There's been a recent spate of interesting and critically acclaimed Australian films being completely overlooked in the local home-video market, but getting bargain-basement DVD releases in the US. Personally, I'm mostly just thankful for any chance to get a copy of these (as I was for Sara Kern's excellent Moja Vesna, brought out by the American label indiepix, strangely with a subtly modified title). But the downside is when, in order to fit in with the straight-to-DVD vibe of the other titles in their collection, you get a quirky, somewhat undefinable Australian indie film like Alena Lodkina's Petrol emerging into the physical media world looking like this (courtesy of Indican Pictures):

Questionable choice of cover photo aside, it looks like someone ran Roger Moore's face through the digital ringer.

I can't think of a franchise whose movies have received worse and worse advertising art from theaters to VHS to DVD to Blu than the James Bond films. I have a marvelous coffee table art book featuring poster art from the first 50 years of the franchise, and seeing the Connery/Moore posters give way to the bland minimalism of the Craig films seems nothing less than criminal.

Poor Roger... I don't hold much with his aim considering one eye is crossed.

This is the one where Q sets him up with the corrective lenses alluded to in the title.

Speaking of specs... don't really know what to think of this. I suppose if I'm going to fight in Vietnam
I'm going to need a pair of glasses that turn the world (agent) orange. Either way, seems a bit muddled.

At first I thought it was a poster for How I Won the War! since I was reminded of this.

I actually like how it pays tribute to the marketing and posters of Bond that have helped define his image, it's not the best done but I'd much rather have a collage of cool theatrical posters than the other rather blander option of just having Sean Connery against a blank background.

maybe I'm biased because they included katakana here, but I think it's great. way, way better than I expected and as said above, this easily could've been a bland cover

You're biased because of a form of text? Hiragana and kanji is there too. Not as much of a fan of that?

Too bad that Japanese text is for Goldfinger and not You Only Live Twice, a film I only saw for the first time last week and where I had no clue Connery does yellowface. Amusing to hear him say "konbanwa" in his voice.

At this point I don’t know if I should be critiquing Art if these last 3 are considered some of the worst DVD covers because I like all of them (although how true Darling’s cover is to the film is something I can’t say for sure).
