Criterion getting sloppy with the dissolve/fade issue and the audio issues on the The Wiz release.

Do you see Criterion fixing the fade/dissolve issue and offering replacement discs in the near future?

It mght be a downside of upping the number of titles they're getting out per month while making do with fewer people to do it.

To be fair the blame should fall primarily on whoever did the 4K restoration. Criterion simply presents it as is and is not even the first home media release not to go the extra mile for this specific issue.

Bottom line: Strictly in terms of the Picture Quality of the 4K disc, which is better - Criterion or Indicator?

Same source master, but the Indicator has a Fidelity in Motion encode.

And the Indicator disc restores the psychologically important fades to white.

Just received a belated note from Criterion. They have fixed the fade to white missing transition issue in the new second pressing. If you bought the first edition, you are eligible for a free upgrade no matter where you bought it. If you have it, drop them a note (either [email protected] or [email protected] should work) and they'll send you replacement instructions. Looks like it'll function like the replacement program for The Wiz, where you write your name and the date on the disc(s) and send them images of it.

Yay. I have the Indicator now, but since the Criterion is fixed, I’ll probably get the Criterion at some point, even as a Criterion fan.

Thanks, time to get off my butt and get some of these errant discs replaced… and then on to the ones that potentially have actual playback issues (including any of the remaining ones that have turned browner since the last time I looked and no longer play)…
