Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Eyes Wide Shut 4K
The Bad Sleep Well upgrade (I am expecting this to be a Bergman/Varda box set situation where we will see upgrades prior to a massive box set announcement)
Simple Men 4K
Point Blank 4K
Buñuel in Mexico box set with Los Olvidados and Él… but considering the Eclipse line coming back, I am afraid this will be a box set from that line.
Hopeful wishes:
Any of the old Lionsgate limited, but specifically the Ran and Man Who Fell to Earth Best Buy exclusives that are out of print.
Any MGM silent
Savage Messiah

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
and I finally picked it up last month, which is why I think a Criterion UHD must be imminent.
I almost guessed Henry & June (my favorite of the 3) this month, but The Unbearable Lightness Of Being is most likely (unless we get a dual release with matching artwork like in the old days).beamish14 wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 1:18 am So many possibly Philip Kaufmann films have been floated: The Right Stuff, Henry & June, The Unbearable Lightness of Being. He seems very tight with Kino and Criterion, so it’s frustrating that these haven’t materialized

I recently watched Savage Messiah for the first time a couple of months ago and it quickly became an all time favorite. I have rewatched it twice since and would be an incredible addition alongside The Devils.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
A couple years back Geoege Feltenstein mentioned on a podcast that both Kaufmann and Criterion wanted to do Unbearable Lightness of Being. I don't know if WB's new distribution deal with the Saul Zaentz Company allows them to sublicense titles or not. (Maybe Bill Hint was right and Criterion was going to do Amadeus before such a restriction was uncovered.)starmanof51 wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 1:39 amI always think, even after all these years, they love to seize on the chance to redo things they had laserdisc rights to - which would mean Unbearable Lightness would be option 1. New owners, though, so maybe those days are over.beamish14 wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 1:18 am So many possibly Philip Kaufmann films have been floated: The Right Stuff, Henry & June, The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Hoping that either WB or Criterion finally release on 4K the long out of circulation At Play in the Fields of the Lord.

I may add a log to that fire as well, despite the high price and horrible cover on the Gaumont release. Appreciate the heads up, dh.Lowry_Sam wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 2:07 amand I finally picked it up last month, which is why I think a Criterion UHD must be imminent.
Love seeing the love for this film. Russell made many films about artists, but this one is his best. The central scene of Scott Antony as Gaudier (underrated performance) working and sweating away on his sculpture while delivering a monologue which cuts through much of the bullshit that is associated with artists and their motivations is probably my favorite scene in any Russell film. The WA DVD is very muddy-looking/sounding. Time for a proper release of this great film.Blutarsky wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 3:05 amI recently watched Savage Messiah for the first time a couple of months ago and it quickly became an all time favorite. I'd like to add Mahler to the Russell rescue request list.

it'd be really funny if we got Marie Antoinette before Lost in Translation, but I'm game since MA has been somehow even more mistreated on home media. and Salo should happenToby Dammit wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 3:14 pm The Leopard 4K

Please let Fall of Otrar happen. Mulvaney hit me to the chance the disc might be a 4K when I reached out about it getting a release.Bressonaire wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 3:16 pm Like Ryannnichols7, I'm hoping for a WAC rescue:

I thought I was the only one who was a fan of Jack Clayton’s Our Mother’s House, a film that never got the attention it deserved.
Would also love to see Joseph Losey’s These are the Damed in the collection. I believe’s it’s with Sony.

This late in the day, though, bodes poorly. I reckon it’s possible, but I wouldn’t bet the parlay on it
