Loooong overdue for a release. Great movie with Rip at his IDGAF best. Feels like a Kino release, though, considering they did Daryl Duke's The Silent Partner.

Amazed no one has released Curtiz' Robin Hood yet. Perfect for 4K/Dolby.

Do we think Zipporah would ever license to Criterion?

They've been sitting on a bunch of Mike Leigh, there's a UHD Naked disc ready to go.

Powell & Pressburger would be perfect for a 4K box set, seems inevitable but not likely to happen this year. Decembers are usually light.

Manhunter feels within reach with how much it’s on the channel.

I would really like that as a possibility but I would hope that Criterion would be able to include multiple cuts of the film. Furthermore wasn't Mann working on yet another cut that yet to materialize?

I’ve read reports of a new 4K of the theatrical cut floating around and that he was preparing a definitive cut of some sort.

A new 70mm print was struck, but I’m unsure if it’s from a 4K restoration. Mann is working on a 3rd version, but I don’t believe the negatives from any of the cut footage exists

I’d kill for Zipporah to finally let go of Shirley Clarke’s The Cool World. The Library of Congress’ restoration from ages ago is beautiful

King Kong (1933)
The Wedding Banquet (1994)
The Act Of Killing/The Look Of Silence
The Killing Fields
Cyclo
July Rhapsody
A City Of Sadness
What Time Is It There?
Save The Green Planet
Shall We Dance? (1996)
Yi Yi upgrade
Jia Zhangke box
Teshigahara 4k upgrade box

Would love it if Criterion would play catch up one month, but just 2 titles & I'd still be happy.

Although I do hope that Milestone would be able to do the release as a retirement gift to Dennis Doros and Amy Heller to complete their Project Shirley collection.

December is generally a pretty quiet month approaching Christmas. I project three, maybe four 4K releases; none of them particularly landmark, but at least two of them involving the luminous Juliette Binoche: The English Patient, and Lovers On the Bridge. One might also wish for a long awaited upgrade to The Unbearable Lightness of Being, but not holding one's breath.

I'm guessing we'll see a Roy Andersson Eclipse set in the next year or two, given Criterion/Janus has picked up a number of his films.

Criterion is sitting on a few Woodfall films, so a box set of the following early titles would work as an Eclipse set:

Look Back in Anger
The Entertainer
Saturday Night & Sunday Morning
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
The Girl with Green Eyes
The Knack

I got confused by the way you formatted this. "Hey, Jia didn't make... oh, wait."

There is a high chance one of the titles will be Eclipse. Hope it's Lubitsch.

mteller, I'd have preferred you to disagree with Deltoid differently. I get the frustration but don't call people names.

But let me make this abundantly clear to Deltoid and anyone else like-minded: cut the crap about perceived token releases and DEI pandering. There are plenty other places where you will find a more receptive audience for this. It's not this forum.

I honestly wasn't even sure how to format that since I usually only bold titles

you are right about Eclipse, I should've guessed one. I do think it's clear we may get one a month for awhile, given how many they name dropped in the announcement
