Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, bum-bum-bum. Song Sung Blue. Craig Brewer writes/directs from a 2008 documentary. Feels like a license to print money.

Very funny, very sexy, surprisingly moving, and really sticks the landing with an epilogue that doesn’t take any easy outs. Lighton’s deft direction is stylish without ever getting in the way, and the editing is crisp and delivers on the comic and emotional moments with precision. Not 100% sure it will be able to be released by A24 in its current form without cuts to avoid an NC-17, but absolutely worth seeking out — as will be any of Lighton’s future efforts.

I like the novella. I remember it getting a stage adaptation, which makes sense, but a film will be… interesting. They must have expanded the material a considerable amount.brundlefly wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 2:32 pm...or grieve with Benedict Cumberbatch and a giant crow voiced by David Thewlis?

Finnish-folklore inspired horror Love Is The Monster, from director Alex Noyerand and starring Madeline Zima is set to premiere at Los Angeles' Screamfest on October 13. This may not be great by a long shot, but one can always hope, and I'm excited to see Zima in a starring role.

Don't know that Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani's Reflection in a Dead Diamond got a US theatrical trailer, but the one for its streaming premiere is dandy (and NSFW).

I’m surprised that Janus didn’t nab the new Dardennes’ movie, but I’m glad it’s getting released in the US. Hopefully Music Box gives it a blu ray.
