Thank you, Criterionsnob. I absolutely agree!

Also-Rans of the Nouvelle Vague (obviously with a different title!) is a great idea for a box set. Has any label ever done that?

(Likewise an ATG box for the Japanese New Wave.)

That's kinda similar to Canadian International Pictures' Other French New Wave set

I so wish the "Italian police corruption" hint materialized as a complete box set of Damiano Damiani's La Piovra. Any chance of that?

Still sore about that "volume 1" having no follow up all these years later.

I emailed CIP directly a couple years ago with some title recommendations, and they told me Vol. 2 is “definitely on the way.”

Somewhat off topic, but do we think Radiance/Raro will release Milano Calibro 9? It’s odd that they’ve released the other Di Leo crime films, but not that one, right? Does someone else have the rights?

Realistically I imagine it will contain films which I know are Blu-ray ready, so my best guesses are:

La fille aux yeux d'or (Albicocco)
Carambologes (Bluwal)
Le Farceur or Les Jeux de l'amour (De Broca)
L'eau a la bouche (Doniol-Valcroze)
La vie à l'envers (Jessua)
Les Mauvais Coups (Leterrier)
Saint-Tropez Blues (Moussy)
La Pyramide humaine (Rouch)
And probably one of the many Mocky films from this period

Maybe it’s a hint for Lelouch’s A Man and a Woman, which seems to be maybe the biggest French New Wave title not available via an English-friendly Blu-Ray.

I hope not! I wasnt alive when it was released, but i never really could understand the love for thia film (at least not the one awarding you the Palme; I can see why it worked well at the oscars)

I have no idea if this would be up Radiance's alley (seems like it might wind up with Spectrum), but I'd love to see the new restorations of António Reis & Margarida Cordeiro's films get proper physical editions. They played at Metrograph earlier this year but I don't expect them to make the rounds, and the HD copies on backchannels are mediocre broadcast rips. A 4K edition of Rosa de Areia likely isn't in the cards, but a man can dream.

I guess the Lelouch is possible since I don’t think WB has it in the UK but that is a big title and they prob wouldn’t stick it in a box

I don't think there's anything suggesting a box set though except the vague wording of the subscription hints, which just shows that there will be more than one French New Wave title released next year.

For anyone that does the subscriptions, what kind of discount did you see overall? I'm thinking of doing the US one.

Didn't somebody (not a disc company) grab up rights to a bunch of Lelouch a couple years ago, including that one? I was left with impression WB doesn't even have US rights anymore.

As an original 3-year subscriber, I would say that overall it was a great deal and the savings were better than expected (although I can't give you an exact number), since they have ramped up their output in years 2 and 3.

I am on the fence about renewing the subscription, simply because I have accumulated too many of their releases I have yet to catch up with. If I do renew, I will definitely splurge on the combined US/UK one, since some of my favorite discs from them were UK-only.

It looked like renewing for year 4 is supposed to come to about $20 a release on average, including boxsets

Shout's BD of Deadly Outlaw Rekka is discounted from $22.99 to $7.99 on Shout's site and Amazon have price-matched. If this is the Miike film Radiance have for 2026, then maybe Shout lost the rights for the US.

I can't see anything suggesting a box set either but there are plenty that are theoretically available. Jean-Daniel Pollet and Luc Moullet's films have been recently been restored by La Traverse and, while Moullet's have secured US distribution, I don't think either catalog has been picked up for the UK yet. There have been a few Michel Deville restorations funded by the CNC since Fran said there weren't great masters available. And I'd also be curious re: the status of the Michel Drach films, which I believe are all owned by his son; a restoration of Les violons du bal was released in France last year and it'd be great if Radiance could pick that up or his debut, On n'enterre pas le dimanche.

If and when this actually gets a release, it will rewrite New Wave discussion just like the increased visibility of Varda has in recent years

Also, Radiance sent out a survey this morning where you can recommend a title. You guys know what to do #WhenWeGoDevilleWeGoAll

Was this sent out in a Newsletter because I don’t see any mention of a survey on their socials?

Yes, it's in an email sent this morning with the subject line 'Time for our January bundle reminder'

Ah okay that explains why I didn't see it. For anyone who isn't subscribed to the newsletter and wants to request a Deville title though, the link to the survey has now been posted on their socials (I myself just cast my vote for L'Apprenti Salaud).
