It’s most likely That Most Important Thing: Love given that the right holders for it are the same as the ones for Police Python 359, which Radiance has released so they already have a solid working relationship with the license holders, plus it has a bankable star too in the form of Romy Schneider.

Not necessarily, but could be as it's StudioCanal (and is listed on Park Circus, if that means anything). L'amour braque is also StudioCanal, and had a 4K restoration.

Not StudioCanal, but La femme publique was released on 4K UHD in France earlier this month. That could also be one Radiance would opt, since it's apparently suitable for a UHD presentation (though that's often up for labels to decide), whilst the current masters for both L'amour braque and That Most Important Thing: Love seem to be suited for standard HD only.

Wow amazing news, That Most Important Thing: Love is superb but I hope it’s one of the four features which isn’t already available on English friendly Blu.

Although it's never been commercially released in the UK. I remember at the turn of the 1990s being struck by the fact that it was pretty much permanently playing in rep in Paris when I'd never previously heard of it.

In fact, Żuławski in general has been very badly served by UK distribution—if I remember rightly, during his lifetime just three films achieved it (The Third Part of the Night, Possession, La Fidelité), with Cosmos at least coming out mere months after he died. And even though The Devil and On the Silver Globe have emerged since, that's still only half his filmography.

And while the dollar-to-pound exchange rate has slightly improved of late, it's still not back up to pre-Brexit levels, never mind the golden era of twenty years ago—so I import far, far less than I used to (Deaf Crocodile is my only regular indulgence), and I know I'm not the only one. Indeed, Mondo Vision's UHD of On the Silver Globe is the most expensive single-film release that I've ever bought!

How often do films that just sold out come back in stock? I just wanted to buy the LE of A Tale of Sorrow and Sadness but unfortunately I waited a day too long. :(

And it’s not in their round up of titles that are nearing OOP status, you should be fine waiting for it to go on sale in the US (I’m pretty sure it was like $17 with a coupon a few weeks ago) or possibly even a future UK sale if so desired

US, Japan, and Poland tomorrow, and a Transmission title - new to Blu-Ray in the UK (and possibly never even on DVD).

Speaking of France, has anyone requested on Discord or via email yet that they get the Chabrol movies?

Pure speculation, but he presumably knows how bad the numbers were on Arrow’s Chabrol sets (which, again, were terrible choices for Arrow— almost all films with existing US Blus with better transfers). There are already a ton of his films ready to be released and this is a label that prioritizes French films. There’s almost surely a reason why there haven’t been any (or maybe he just doesn’t like Chabrol)

I suppose he could do a one time lower print run like he did with Allonsanfan but since that one still hasn't sold out (I bought a copy in last week's sale), it'll only have confirmed his projection that there wouldn't be a great demand for it. With that in mind and, as you said, Arrow's poor sales for their sets, he is probably not risking a set. He could try Le Boucher as a test case.

Arrow released all these prime Chabrols on DVD back in the day. I recall Fran saying he'd like to upgrade them but materials provided in the past have not been up to snuff. It sounds like there may still be issues on that front

I’m positive that the Polish title is The Dancing Hawk since Radiance have already released the director’s Through and Through & the hint of it being a parable of social advancement matches The Dancing Hawk to a tee.

It's a real shame that there's demonstrably very little demand for the Tavianis, because if four of their best-known titles attract virtually no interest (including one with Marcello Mastroianni on top form), there's precious little hope for most of the others.

In fact, when planning my commentary I remember asking myself how best to tackle St Michael Had a Rooster, the film that was in many ways a dry run for Allonsanfán—for that reason, I couldn't ignore it, but I was acutely aware that it had never been released in the UK and so the chances of most of my listeners not merely not having seen it but never having had the chance to see it were pretty overwhelming. (I saw it for the first time courtesy of an imported Spanish DVD about fifteen years ago.)

It’s frustrating because I really cannot imagine anyone on this forum not liking Allonsanfan, and yet the thread is still fairly quiet

Fran's most recent comment on the Radiance Discord (2022, so before news of these restorations) was that they "tried for all of those Chabrols at Arrow, some of [his] favourites, but they [were] trapped in authors rights lapses that needed renewing."

He has not commented recently but he would evidently be interested if the rights were available / affordable / Radiance's schedule could handle it

Hope the Polish film is directed by one of the several Andrzejs, for example Bad Luck or Eroica by Munk.

Cutter's Way is the first FCE title transferring to Radiance direct and in 4K, dare I hope they do Married to the Mob next? I'd assumed 4K upgrades of existing titles would only apply to Radiance titles but I'm absolutely not complaining. I actually thought A Moment of Romance might be first but hopefully that's coming too.

I liked it very much (and MichaelB's commentary).

By coincidence, I watched it again a few days before seeing One Battle After Another, which paled in comparison, unfortunately.

It's not the OOP and ridiculously priced The Confession by Costa-Gavras is it? Then I'm gonna be brave and guess Masumura's A Wife Confesses, preferably in 4K UHD!
