These two and Mandingo are the Olive Paramount titles that I’d love to see Criterion handle. Maybe The Outsider, too

So has anyone actually accumulated more than 2 or 3 points over the years (besides Bressionaire)?

I think most people only throw in one or two actual possibilites, with the rest being longer term hopefuls (otherwise people would have the
exact same list every month). Also, since boxsets have become a rarity & there's the perennial complaint about Criterion sitting on titles, there's also the hope that Criterion steps up the number of individual titles per month.

Yeah, that’s my mindset as well. I don’t even know what points are in guessing since I got on this site rather recently lol. I’m just having fun guessing.

As someone who likes to read all the guesses I dislike the laundry lists. It takes the fun away from reading. If everyone ran up 10 to 15 titles what would be the point. I could easily put up all the films I would like to see but why. It’s pointless

lol but you *are* the one with the long list in question and other people are politely suggesting that that is not in the spirit everyone else is coming to this thread with. Obviously guessing Criterion releases is the most trivial of stakes but I can't imagine coming into a community with this attitude of not wanting to understand and meet them where they're at. Like, if you just want a venue for your own enjoyment, couldn't you do that anywhere?

When the thread first started I don't recall it being so serious or as much participated in, but it has remained successful (unlike the fake Criterion covers thread) so maybe it's good to have a clearer boundary/rules? To date 7 is the maximum number of releases Criterion has released in a month. Would that be a good suggested maximum for purposes in this thread?

To be clear I don't speak for 'the community' in question; I'm just a random infrequent poster who was confused by what I was seeing. The takeaway wasn't meant to be "do it somewhere else" -- just, if there's a reason you want to be posting here and not elsewhere, maybe consider that it's not entirely on everyone else to adjust to you. Again, lowest possible stakes here, just something I'd think applies almost anywhere.

Right, it's not that these guesses are serious business. It's just that theoretically we try not to lower the quality of things we participate in, so maybe it could help to have an idea of how to keep one's own lighthearted fun from intruding on everyone else's?

All one has to do is go back to the first several pages of this thread to see how many guesses were done 11 years ago. The one big difference between then and now is Jason Polan is no longer with us, as well as Criterion scaled back on hints they used to drop. So, guessing today is more of a shot in the dark. So, throwing out many titles is really just wishful thinking

Is this an attack on Domino? He’s the only one I can see in the first few pages you refer to who is predicting 10 different films.

It feels a shame to lose a chatty new member over something as trivial of whether one month they should be allowed to post 4 more titles than the average person on this thread, especially if this is based upon a rule that has never been enforced before.

I would love to see Criterion stick it to all those complaining about its backlog and announce one month a list of 10-12 UHD upgrades and/or titles/restorations it has been rumored to have been sitting on but not releasing for a while....a girl can dream. However It is also true that with more participants, longer lists make sifting through all the guesses more of a chore and less in the spirit of things.
