Arrow did in-house restorations for some if not all films in their recent Shawscope sets. I wouldn't consider them overpriced at all.

Re: 88 Films
I had the exact same thought, and yes it's a Shout set and not Arrow.. I assume this was just a case of accidentally naming the wrong label. I own a few of the Arrow sets but have been hesitant about the Shout ones as they're more expensive and I don't expect the same quality. This was actually the film that had brought me closest to trying one; glad I can put that behind me for now..! Until they bury Love Eterne in a future volume, I guess.

Holy Flame of the Martial World is not in any of the Shawscope sets. It is in Shout's Vol. 4 setandyli wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 5:16 am Arrow did in-house restorations for some if not all films in their recent Shawscope sets. I wouldn't consider them overpriced at all.

Right. Mine was just a general comment about the Arrow sets. As for the film in question (Holy Flame), is it particularly good that people would like to own it as a stand-alone?

Re: 88 Films
I'm not the biggest Shaw Bros buff but of the ~20 films I have seen it's definitely near the top, maybe the best in the category of pure empty calorie sugar rush. Just a crazy maximalist laser show of a film. I've only ever seen it on a dvd rip online but I remember once opening it and choosing a random spot in the middle of the film and spending the next two minutes just laughing in the "I can't believe what I'm watching" way.. great midday pick-me-up!andyli wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 5:54 am Right. That is ridiculous. It doesn’t have any of Bass’ short films, either

Yeah, will be keeping my 101 Films release for the extras, may get the 88 Films for the 4K bump at some point though.

Mondo Digital on Sakuran and Helter Skeltercolinr0380 wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 12:42 am I had completely missed Finch's earlier post about the March releases. Nice to see the first two features by Mika Ninagawa enter the "Japanarchy" line with 2006's Sakuran and 2012's Helter Skelter. Sakuran previously received a barebones UK DVD release through ICA Projects back in the late 2000s but this may be the UK debut in any form of Helter Skelter. Looking at imdb for what Ninagawa has done since it was interesting to see that she has done an adaptation of Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human (which would be fascinating to see a female filmmaker tackle, since it is such a male POV story), and an Alicia Keys music video!

The Hours is coming in May. How far back do we need to go now to find the most recent Best Picture nom with worldwide no Blu-ray

Discounting Netflix, which if you didn't means we'd need to go back all of five months, I think the answer is Sons and Lovers from 1960?domino harvey wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 2:24 am The Hours is coming in May. And they put out a deluxe DVD set right before Blu-ray blew up, I’m surprised it’s never been upgraded. Wonder if Beatty is holding it up

July releases are Riki Oh 4K UHD, American Pie BD Collection, Sex and Zen II, and a Shaw Bros Triple Feature (Shaolin Intruders, Shaolin Prince, Two Champions of Shaolin).
I think I'm starting to get upgrade fatigue, as this will be the 3rd time that I've bought Riki Oh since 2020.

Pity they didn't (or couldn't?) get Opium and the Kung Fu Master to make it a Tong Kai triple feature. Champions is getting mixed reviews for a Chang Cheh flick on Letterboxd but Shaolin Intruders, a martial arts whodunit, sounds wonderful.

Re: 88 Films
Two Champions is very much Chang Cheh by numbers, with a very dull first reel of people sat in chairs delivering exposition. It does have a decent final reel though.Finch wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2026 8:38 pm Pity they didn't (or couldn't?) get Opium and the Kung Fu Master to make it a Tong Kai triple feature.
