The Ginger Rogers film or the Diane Lane one?
I meant the latter from 1987.

I don't believe anyone has announced they're working on one, no. It was produced by Scotti Bros so is probably owned by MGM/Amazon.

Mr Flower, slightly off-topic, but given there’s a 4K master of “The Name of the Rose”, released in Europe, do you think there’s any chance of Arrow getting the rights/know whose got them in the UK if already snaffled?

Just inquired about this version and Video Mercury told me that there isn't a new restoration for this title and there seems to be some misunderstanding from Asian Film Archive. They provided the same HD restoration to them.

Not exactly film restoration, but film preservation - a crowdfunding effort (goal reached) to preserve The Saga of William S. Hart (Blackhawk):

The film "contains film footage from many Hart films which are now considered lost."

Stefan Drössler on restoring The Joyless Street:
https://www.weimarcinema.org/essay/Drossler2
Update:
this restoration is a digital one, different than the one on the Edition Filmmuseum DVD; made for the film´s 100th anniversary and featuring digitally optimized "exposure values and grading frame by frame. Besides, a more differentiated concept for tinting the scenes was developed. Compared to the analog 35mm color prints produced using the Desmet method, image quality was significantly improved. The stark differences among the various source materials were minimized through extensive digital retouching, and many shots in which individual frames had been lost during analog printing transitions were completed. The intertitles were revised once again and newly typeset in a font closely approximating one of the original typefaces. /.../ Of the film’s original length, just under 500 meters—approximately twenty minutes—remain missing. Much of this difference may be attributable not to missing scenes but to substantially longer intertitles, necessary to ensure readability at the elevated projection speeds used in premiere cinemas."

The German censorship card with original intertitles remain missing.

Saw a restoration of Esben Storm's brilliant In Search of Anna (1978) tonight.

Director Haydn Kennan did a talk after the film and said that the print shown still needed some minor work including the sound. I did notice that the sound seemed out of sync some times but not distracting. He expects the final restoration touches to be completed in the coming months and hopes to have the film re-released.

There was a good crowd for it's only screening at the Cinema Reborn Film Festival in Sydney. He also mentioned it was the first time the film had been seen since it released back in 1979 where is was a commercial failure as the local distributor didn't know what to do with the film.

From my recollections both In Search of Anna and Jim Sharman's The Night, The Prowler (1978) meet similar fates. Both were ready for release in 1978 but the distributor Greater Union Organisation simply didn't know what to do with them and they were ironically released in June/July 1979 at the Pitt Centre in Sydney with Sharman's film running 2 weeks and Storms running 3 weeks.

At least the Sharman film has still been in circulation on film, VHS & DVD over the years and received international distribution. In Search of Anna disappeared. I can't recall a VHS release to be honest.

Anyway, great to see it back and we are so lucky to have it. The original negative was unusable but thankfully there was a dupe and that is what the restoration has been taken from. Haydn also mentioned that the Australian National Film and Sound Archive were not remotely interested in restoration ay of Esben Storm's films which I personally think is a disgrace given Australian has not really made very many films over the years.

Anyway, In Search of Anna is as fresh and inventive as it was back in 1979 and holds up perfectly in every respect.

The restoration addressed a wide range of image and sound issues, including splices, dirt, mould damage, scratches, flicker, colour fading, frame instability, background noise, pops, and other audio distortions.
