They might be cooking up something else. When I was on the site day of announcements the banner didn’t go up until much later than the announcements so I kept thinking there was another title coming.guyetgenevieve wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2026 8:43 pm The Mike Mills set was initially announced as a July 28th release, but it looks like it's been bumped up a week. Just received the latest IndieCollect e-mail and they have just annouced a new restoration of Citizen Ruth to play at the upcoming TCM Fest on 1st May, with Alexander Payne, Kurtwood Smith and Laura Dern in attendance.therewillbeblus wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 12:01 am Citizen Ruth has no blu-ray release, it's the best pick
So it looks like that will be coming sooner or later!IndieCollect wrote:Thanks to our Restoration Partners!
The new 4K restoration by IndieCollect was created in collaboration with The Criterion Collection and Paramount Pictures

Haven’t seen it mentioned yet but Janus is touring a 4K restoration of Visconti’s Bellissima.

Forgot to post this here a while back but Criterion/Janus have picked up the rights to Daniel Raim's The Ozu Diaries. TCM will be screening it tomorrow as a part of a Ozu retrospective that they are doing this month. Something like this makes me feel like it will be added to a Ozu boxset, especially after the Ozu Eclipse being OOP.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Not sure the best place to post this, but I've noticed that Shout! Studios' Youtube channel has been first live streaming & then making available several Criterion titles: Le Samourai, Godzilla, Seven Samurai, Coffee & Cigarettes, Infernal Affairs, Eraserhead, Paris Texas for free. They open with the crazy C, so they're coming from Criterion. Anybody here anything about this arrangement? They have some different titles from Kanopy.

Back in February, in the Criterion Channel thread, I posted the same question regarding Shout streaming some Janus titles and have yet to find any info about the arrangement. I haven't really even seen any speculation about it.

The Silence of The Lambs is marked as Unavailable on Kino Lorber's website, does this mean Criterion has picked it back up or is it just out of stock?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Maybe, maybe not. KL recently had a number of MGM titles go Unavailable. The KL Insider posted on blu-ray.com they are temporarily unavailable as reliscensing is being worked-on, but they are expected to become available again in the future. TSOTL wasn't on the list of titles being pulled from existing orders that someone posted, so it could be going back to Criterion like some others have, for instance Some Like It Hot (and 12 Angry Men apparently will be according to the Shelf Space podcast this week).

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Based off yesterday's Cannes Classics announcements, I think it's safe to say that Maria Plyta's Eve will be released under a future World Cinema Project release. With the 4K restoration of Sanshiro Sugata being announced, I can see them waiting for the rest of the Kurosawa titles to be restored by Toho and releasing a big set with all the titles. I can also see them grabbing the rights to De Sica's Two Women (as well as the new De Sica documentary), which oddly has never been released on HD in North America.

Speaking of Scorsese, I wonder if The Color of Money is possibly upcoming since it's the 40th anniversary this year, a 4k DCP is listed on Park Circus, and I imagine Scorsese could get it licensed out from Disney (unless what's going on with their home video department would somehow prevent this from happening).

I think they're more receptive to their big-name directors wanting a Criterion release, or ones that have an ongoing relationship with Criterion. Del Toro is a big example. I don't know why they would block Color of Money - not like they would probably block Kundun.

Person who made that comment was me! In DWK we trust. Also in bigger news from Reddit. I made a post about the rumors regarding the Kubrick box and was dm’ed by someone who works for Elstree and we talked for a bit about it. Confirming some things about the set and the cuts of the films for me. I told them I wouldn’t blab about a lot of it so I think that’s the most I can say without breaking their trust.yoloswegmaster wrote: Wed May 06, 2026 6:52 pm Based off yesterday's Cannes Classics announcements, I think it's safe to say that Maria Plyta's Eve will be released under a future World Cinema Project release. Wow, so we're getting a Kubrick boxset with both cuts of The Shining! How many other Kubrick films are there with different versions besides The Shining?

I believe international versions count as different cuts so I would think Eyes Wide Shut as well.yoloswegmaster wrote: Wed May 06, 2026 8:14 pm Wow, so we're getting a Kubrick boxset with both cuts of The Shining! How many other Kubrick films are there with different versions besides The Shining?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
If I'm remembering why I think they have them correctly, I am less certain about the Cape Fear duo than some other stuff Ive posted about. But, at this point the fact that they haven't been released is a pretty good sign that they do have them (anyone else would have had them out by now.)

I wonder if this means Lolita is being saved for the box set rather than a prior individual release by Criterion.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
I would imagine the additional material added to A Clockwork Orange in its last 4K restoration probably isn't worth having 2 separate discs to preserve the previous cut for.

Kubrick or not, I’m sure Lolita would be an easier sell given Epstein as part of a set than solo.crimlaw wrote: Wed May 06, 2026 11:14 pm I wonder if this means Lolita is being saved for the box set rather than a prior individual release by Criterion.

I would guess that, like Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch, Lolita will get a solo release alongside the box. The other films, since they are or were already available on UHD, will not get solo releases.

That assumes we're not getting anything more than the titles already available. What about The Shining, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, etc, etc?

That is what I meant. They are already available on UHD from their respective studios or were available from other labels (the MGM titles from Kkno.)denti alligator wrote: Thu May 07, 2026 12:46 am That assumes we're not getting anything more than the titles already available. I just hope they don't lock Lolita in that fat box at this point. I'm sure they'll find ways to improve or add value to the existing releases but doubt I'll buy them all over again.crimlaw wrote: Wed May 06, 2026 11:14 pm I wonder if this means Lolita is being saved for the box set rather than a prior individual release by Criterion.
