A couple years ago at a cinemaplex theatre, tech problems resulted in a 30 minute delay. The staff gave everyone a free pre-printed ticket for any movie around 15 minutes into said delay.

Considering concessions are where most of the profits lie, this is a no-brainer.

I'm not sure if the policies were changed since these incidents happened, but when something went wrong at BAM, Quad Cinema and FilmLinc here in NYC, they basically handed everyone a pre-printed slip of paper that someone filled out with a pen and signed, which I then used as a free ticket voucher the next time I saw something. Nothing high-tech, it looked like it could've been something they literally printed/created decades ago and just printed out or Xeroxed copied, then cut up into individual vouchers for situations like this.

The fire alarm went off halfway through Snow White & The Huntsman (it was a false alarm, thankfully), and the patrons who had to go out into the parking lot and wait were allowed to finish their movies and received complimentary tickets for the inconvenience.
