Forgive me if I've overlooked something, but who among us would buy this set and not basically shelve half the discs?

ie If you have a 4k setup, what's the point of the 15 Blus, and vice versa?

I can't be alone in being frustrated by the dual format!?

That’s where most (all?) of the extras go.

How are you “shelving” anything, it’s all in one package

Well ok. Figure of speech.

But 15 discs that don't matter?

Again, as denti mentioned, the extras typically appear on the Blu-rays not the UHDs. So, they presumably do matter to most purchasers

Ah!

In other words...I missed something!

(Edit: In my defence, Denti is on my ignore list!) 😂

If you were not interested in the 4k discs, then you’d have a legitimate complaint.

Hmmm, people actually do that?

I actually wish more people would do that. I have done it in the past.

I'm just having trouble seeing why anyone would do it to denti.

Well, I have no need for 4K discs now… but I keep telling myself that will change before I leave the planet. And given I already bought some of these films five times on disc, I really want this to be the last time I buy any Kubrick film!

Yeah, I mean, by the time I get around to going 4k, it might be some other thing! 😂

(And honestly, I can't remember why the "ignore" thing. Some silliness from a few weeks ago. (Likely my fault!) I'm sure I'm on some lists!)

I would buy the set, but do not want the 4k discs stuffed down my throat, like I'm a foie gras goose. So, like I did with the Ranown Westerns, I'll pass until there is a blu-ray only option

I don't think Criterion would ever do a budget box for films that have a million cheap BD and DVD repackagings already available, and the audience buying this are likely doing so for the definitive deluxe treatment. What problem would you have with upwards compatibility anyways, is this something people are complaining about these days? We are in the final throes of physical media here, lets be thankful things like this are still being produced.

I understand their thinking.

However, aside from the 4k discs that I will not upgrade to, my shelf space is increasingly an issue. My logic tells me that a set minus the plethora of 4k discs that I will never use should take up less space. I'm just voting for the world I want with my wallet. Call it quixotic if you like.

They will just have to live with my (& those of my ilk's) response to their decision.
