What am I supposed to be seeing there, besides one being darker than the other?

There’s nothing to be concerned about as you’re looking at two different grades. I’ve seen the Criterion 4k in motion and it looks excellent. Fidelity in Motion’s HDR grade for Studiocanal exacerbates the grain more, which is normal behavior. The BR user the above poster linked to blew this and other Criterion-related matters way out of proportion.

The Studiocanal screencap shows the fine film grain of the negative throughout, whereas the poorer digital compression of the Criterion clearly smears and wipes away a lot of this grain and exhibits blocky artefacts in places. The Criterion also blurs away fine details e.g. on the hairs at the edge of the head.
