God, I wish. I thought Kino was still sitting on Circle of Deceit. Like 25 Firemans Street and The Blue Kite, they never upgraded them, and it’s possible they’ve lost the rights at this point

These have been on the channel for years now, even an Eclipse set would be welcome at this point.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Hi, everyone! Longtime Criterion nerd, but first time poster. So, admittedly I'm not up to date on all the rumors and leaks.
I thought I'd just start with a general wishlist, since I'm not up to date on rumors. Seems as good an introduction as any.
1. Seijun Suzuki Collection - Given that there have been so many of his films in the collection over the years, and the inclusion of a Suzuki director page on Criterion Channel, I hold out hope that one day they'll release a good collection of his work.
2. The Birdcage - La Cage au Follies is already in the collection, and I think the American remake is brilliant and worthy of inclusion.
3. Bernie - Criterion loves Linklater as much as I do, so let's finally bring one of his best films to the Collection
4. Hard Boiled and The Killer - I know there have been some good releases of these films on other labels recently (which I've definitely bought), but would love to see Criterion put these back in print.
5. WR: Mysteries of the Organism - An older, weirder Criterion entry that I love. Would love to get an updated version released
6. Children of Paradise in 4K - Even the blu-ray leaves something to be desired, in my opinion.
7. The Searchers - John Ford. John Wayne. A Scorsese favorite.
8. Wolf of Wall Street - Speaking of Scorsese, they've been releasing all his other recent films. It's time to give his best (in my opinion) recent film a really good edition.
9. Stalker in 4K - Make it even more beautiful
10. The King's Warden - A recent movie that I think is right up Criterion's alley.
I'll sit back and read now. Try to get a lay of the land. Happy to have found a community of people that love Criterion as much as I do.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
This is what I'm hoping. That Kino DVD of CoD is over 20 years old. The fact that it's still in stock from Kino points to it not being a great seller, I guess. Volker's best film, in my opinion, and the best of the reporter-in-a-war-zone films. Your guess of The Year Of Living Dangerously is a good one in that sub-genre, too. There are enough good films in that genre to make for an interesting themed box set, rights issues notwithstanding.beamish14 wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2026 6:49 pmGod, I wish. The Horse's Mouth and Thieves' Highway are two upgrades I've been wanting and expecting for a long time. The other Neame and Dassin titles in the Collection are all blu.
Surprised Criterion hasn't been all over Andersson. Maybe they have, unsuccessfully? You, The Living seems the most likely choice.Mr.DarjeelingLimited wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2026 6:48 pm I could die a happy man if a Roy Andersson film was released in a region A 4K.

If The Wild Bunch comes out before January this might be the best year of releases for me between that and the Kubrick set

You're never going to get a better edition of The Searchers than the current Warner Archive Collection edition. Fidelity in Motion encoding, Bogdanovich commentary, archival extras and outtakes. The restoration is a miracle.Postmodern_Penguin wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 4:10 am 7. The Searchers - John Ford. John Wayne. A Scorsese favorite.

Likewise, I doubt you'll get a better edition of Wolf of Wall Street than the Arrow UHD (though the extras Blu-ray is Region B only). I appreciate the desire to have the Criterion stamp on things, but don't overlook the excellent work of other labels. Sometimes the only "improvement" Criterion could make is to raise the price by $10.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
welcome, and not to give you an idea we're overly picking on you, but maybe to give some useful info: Shout Factory own the John Woo titles and since they just put them out (with the extras from the Criterion editions), there is very little reason or need for them to come back in print from Criterion, and this isn't even including the superior editions of these films from Arrow.Postmodern_Penguin wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 4:10 am 4. as for Stalker, as much as I'd love Criterion to get back to releasing Soviet films, their hands are kinda tied with the sanctions against Russia at the moment, so I wouldn't hold your breath. whenever this situation changes, you can expect Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala to be the first film released, as a restoration was being worked on prior to 2022. the only Tarkovsky films we will see on 4K until then are the two Kino released

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Welcome! I think this would be one of those unexpected 90s picks from Criterion maybe during June (Pride month) or July. Would love for Nathan Lane to do some extras if they do release this. Similar to John Waters, I enjoy his interview presence and just from his brief discussion about the pre-production of this on Conan’s podcast, I just know a 30 minute feature of him would be my supplement of the year. Not to mention, Criterion already has released Nichols and May films. If only they could get The Heartbreak Kid from rights hell.Postmodern_Penguin wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 4:10 am 2.
