Wow, what a bad film! When it turns out that the Jessica Biel version with Moulin Rouge!-esque jazz covers of modern songs is better than Hitchcock’s take, well, that says enough surely?

No news about season two. They release so much dross, I can’t imagine why they’re not pursuing at least the remaining two seasons (unless they’re still remastering them, since the previous set was done in house)

Right, yeah, it's one of his worst. But since the only version I've seen is a horrible PD print on poorly mastered DVD, I thought maybe seeing the restoration in HD might elevate it a little.

Some books tell me that Easy Virtue is bad, but it has some...er...virtues. ie Elements of the major works. But my fav Hitchbook, The Art Of Alfred Hitchcock, is rather kind to it. Mildly gushing, even.

Dammit I need to see this.

That's great, but I wonder why they didn't release The Pleasure Garden as well? That is a better film, and has had a beautiful restoration that is not available anywhere else in the world on either DVD or blu-ray.

In my opinion it would have made more sense to put Easy Virtue as an extra feature on a The Pleasure Garden release.

I guess there is still a chance that Imprint may give us a standalone release of The Pleasure Garden in the future?

Finished up the set. For me the only really good silent turned out, rather unexpectedly, to be the Farmer’s Wife. Thanks to cringe comedy being all the rage, if anything this one’s once misogynist leanings and clueless protag feel more modern than ever. This is also the only Hitchcock comedy that’s actually funny. Who knew?! Champagne was very bad, mostly because of Betty Balfour’s obnoxious lead perf (could this be the worst female lead in his filmography?). Was not surprised to learn from the extras that Hitchcock hated her in the film and course corrected nicely with Anny Ondra in the Manxman. However, while I thought she was great, I just could not give this melodrama enough rope to get over the awful dramatic set up here (two characters who love each other sacrifice their love solely for the sake of a dopey third party in an act of self-flagellation that makes no real sense when neither seems to even like the guy, much less love). I now only have Juno and the Paycock (not included in this set) remaining and I’ll save that for a much braver night’s viewing than I have in me now
