Re: Passages
Haven’t seen any official articles yet, but Ingrid Carlberg on X/Twitter announced that Liv Ullmann had passed away.

Re: Passages
I would assume Carlberg is telling the truth, I don’t see any reason she would say otherwise unless given faulty information.

Re: Passages
That post came ten hours ago, so it is indeed strange that news hasn't spread elsewhere. Maybe the family wants the media to hold off for the moment, but then I wonder why Carlberg went ahead and broke the news?

Hugues Peysson (a family friend of hers) and Dheeraj Akolkar (director of her documentary, Liv Ullman - A Road Less Travelled) state that this is misinformation and her family has confirmed this is fake news.

Re: Passages
That clinches it, but FWIW I dug a little more - Carlberg has an official website, and it has social media links on it. The Twitter (or "X" blech) link goes to a different account. The one with the misinformation is an account that opened back in October, and it looks fake for a variety of other reasons.

Re: Passages
Maybe someone here knows how to get a fake account taken down, but some public figures with a lot of followers are re-sharing that fake post, and as long as it stays up, I think there's going to be continued confusion.

The film I always remember her the most from was Larry Clark's The Smell of Us (2014). She also appeared in Inside (2007), The Father of My Children (2009) & Titane (2021) amongst others.

FWIW, that fake Ingrid Carlberg account posted an admission that it was a fake account created by Tommaso Debenedetti. He has a history of perpetuating death hoaxes, allegedly to prove how easily fake news can be created through social media.

John Crowley, a wonderful writer who forged his own unique path in fantasy, crafting genuine works of literature. His Aegypt quartet is one of the most original and beguiling works of fantastic fiction I’ve ever read. And I don’t know anyone who’s read his novel Little, Big and wasn’t enthralled with it. He never got the acclaim or popularity he deserved. I hold out hope that the Library of America reissues his books.

Re: Passages
Dave Marsh, early and influential rock critic who was one of Creem magazine's first editors, he went on to write for Newsday, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone where he was possibly its most influential editor. He most famously championed Bruce Springsteen, introducing Jon Landau to his music by personally taking him to his first Springsteen concert and then encouraging him to write his famous "I've seen the future" review. He later wrote the first major Springsteen biographies which were exhaustive but also hagiographic. He also wrote biographies for the Who (possibly definitive) and Michael Jackson (terrible and outlandish), entertaining novelties like Rock Lists, and perhaps his most famous book The Heart of Rock and Soul which reflects the best aspects of his criticism and (often by omission) his worst instincts. He was also the most politically active of any rock critic, especially when it came to fighting censorship.

Tommy John. Aside from his impressive accomplishments as a pitcher, he is by far more influential for what he did off the field, taking a chance on a new and risky surgical procedure that has now become fairly prevalent among major league baseball players. (Roughly a third of all active major league pitchers have received it at some point during their careers.) The operation became forever associated with him, commonly known as "Tommy John surgery," and has been credited with saving endless careers among big league pitchers. Make no mistake, this wasn't a mere attempt to delay the inevitable - he arguably had his best seasons after recovering from the surgery, and out of the 288 major-league games he won, more than half of them came after the surgery as well. (If he hadn't taken the chance, his career would've been finished.) In total he pitched 26 seasons in the majors, a near-record surpassed only by Nolan Ryan.
