Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
I want The Funeral as the US title or one of them. If I keep asking for it, it'll materialise (ha ha).

Assuming NEW ROSE HOTEL proves to be a great seller for Radiance—which is especially likely now that the VinSyn disc is going OOP—that might realistically happen in the future.Finch wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 1:14 am I want The Funeral as the US title or one of them. Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
Given there doesn’t ever seem to’ve been a fully english-friendly home video release in the correct aspect ratio, I could imagine that there’s a rights issue (or maybe it’s just disinterest). But I would’ve said almost the same thing about New Rose Hotel until recently. Here’s hoping.

Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
Regarding The Funeral, I'm sure it's a rights issue considering other Ferrara films have made it to the HD era. I actually looked into this recently when discussing it on the Radiance / Transmission discord. The distribution was initially handled by MDP Worldwide - they later rebranded to Media 8. Their titles would later be acquired by Screen Media. Screen Media is credited on the most recent UK DVD release that came out in 2012.
Things happened with Screen Media and, essentially, what was their library is now distributed through 101 Films in the UK.
Unsure about the US but I guess that leaves essentially 3 options for the UK
1. 101 Films have it and don't know that they have it (as it seems like a title they would release themselves)
2. 101 Films have it, know about it, and would release it but don't have access to the original materials to do a new transfer (which would presumably be with whoever the US rightsholder is)
3. The rights for some reason went elsewhere between the UK DVD release in 2012 and 101 getting the catalog in 2021
With regards to the US rights, I can't see why they wouldn't still be with the rest of the October Films catalog that is now with Focus Features. But others from there have had a release so no idea on that front.

Re: Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist
From the Discord: "
Commedia all’italiana 2 is still on the docket but looking more like 2028 now as another box set I’ve been wanting to do for years has taken its place I’m afraid (for 2027). But I think most on this forum will appreciate it even if it’s from two decades prior.
I am sorry to say that there’s no more Rosi from us. The major ones are with another label and the early works don’t really seem viable, especially with their current masters."
Let the guesses commence on what the 30s-40s box set could be. Gremillion? Early Ophuls? Kautner?

Meant to thank you Calvin for the rights posts re The Funeral. Looks like Criterion or VS are the likeliest US labels to get the film from Focus/October Films.

Guessing Rouch or Jolivet? I know neither of them well.

Punishment Island - Shinoda
Calvin - you mention another box Fran has wanted to do for decades and then you mention a 30s-40s box. Are these one and the same? I couldn’t quite understand your comment.

And does the Rosi comment mean Criterion has the UK rights to Hands Over the City and Salvatore Giuliano now?

One and the same. The box is from 'two decades before' commedia all'Italiana (and he has said it's not Italian but is from Europe)Peacock wrote:Punishment Island - Shinoda

Ah I see, I read the two decades prior as meaning he wanted to do the boxset two decades ago at Arrow.
