Anyone else see this?
I - and all 6 or 8 people I know who saw it - found it philosophically and dramatically muddled and emotionally unaffecting. Sadly, nothing since Daremo shirinai has remotely lived up to the promise of his first three fiction films.

Gkids is screening Look Back at various festivals now -- it should be in Boston at the IFF (at the Brattle in Cambridge) in October and/or early November (no precise schedule yet, as far as I can tell).

Neon will be releasing a BD (possibly a MOD one) of Sheep in a Box in November.
Anyone else see this? It's not without its merits - and I was surprised to see Elijah Wald, who usually writes about politics, music and history, heap immense praise on it - but I was disappointed and didn't think it added up to much despite some promising ideas early on.
It is the first Kore-eda film that I haven't liked.

This is another one of those films that seemed to be coming soon for a while & then didn't. I'm pretty sure I saw it listed at one AMC theater that was out of the way for me and because of the bad reviews, I didn't feel like making an effort to drive there. Then just as quickly as it finally dropped, it disappeared from all "coming soon" listings. I will make more of another effort for his other film, which hopefully plays somewhere & isn't affected by Sheep In A Box's poor reception.
