I still remember the awful feeling of watching the second episode as it aired and it coming to them actually showing the horrendously unlikely Gilbert and Sullivan sketch in full (an arrogant and clueless idea like this could only work if we never actually saw it, as we could then believe the in-world audience of the fictional show would like it without having to live through it and thus be forced to recognize how off it is) and I realized Sorkin, who was basically a God to me at that time, had no idea what he was doing. Great pilot though!
