I just finished watching the film (unexpectedly got delivered earlier this afternoon) and feel like walking on clouds. What a wonderful, gentle and bittersweet hangout movie. I may just have become a lifelong fan.

Not sure. It’s discussed on the another forum. I already have the HK and Korean DVDs from years ago. And unlike the two other films starring Bae Doona, I have watched this film twice.

Take Care of My Cat would be new to me as well so hopefully it gets an English friendly release.

The old Korean DVD of TComC was English-friendly -- and even had two earlier shortfilms made by the director. So, it will remain in my collection regardless. This release looked pretty good, as I recall.

Pretty much my exact reaction when I saw this a couple of years ago. I was telling everyone I knew to see it (which should be easier now that there's a new release).

For all those newly in love with Linda x 3, I highly recommend A Gentle Breeze in the Village, a subsequent Yamashita film with many of the same qualities.

zedz -- I got the (thankfully) subbed Japanese DVD of Gentle Breeze when it came out long ago. I never came across any other release -- and I just assumed this was long out of print. I concur in your recommendation (but love LLL more). Alas, almost nothing by Yamashita after this seems to have gotten a subbed release.

There is a Japanese Blu-ray that reportedly has English subs and is a decent price from Amazon.jp. The only issue is that the shipping cost is quite high if you only buy one copy. This could be another good opportunity for multiple people to save on shipping costs with a group buy. Maybe run it along with the Filmokaz one, so people who are interested only have to pay Media Mail once for a shipment with both A Gentle Breeze in the Village and I Even Met Happy Gypsies?

Looking at the cover of this release, maybe I actually have the bluray.

Update: Same cover -- but DVD (which came out several years earlier). I notice we discussed the bluray release here 11 years ago. And people noted a weirdness in the subs (using "ta" for "thanks").

LLL is supposed to be delivered today (along with Colorful Stage, and the Colors Within).

The 32 minute "making of" was quite decent. It featured old "home movie" scenes from the filming of the movie plus recollections of the director and the four main actresses. In passing, Shiori Sekine (the real world bassist who played the bass -- and who started her musical career as part of a cultural festival rock band) mentioned where the movie was made -- Maebashi in Gunma prefecture. All five really seem to have very fond memories and are proud of their work in the movie. One can also see the real world cameraderie the actresses developed.

One stray thought that occurred to me when rewatching this (maybe the 12th or so time) was it reminded me of Imamura -- if only Imamura was making a light-hearted movie about high school students. There were even a few bits of Imamura-like framing.

I got in contact with a seller on eBay and they stated that the Japanese release does not have English language subtitles.

Through which routes have non-North American purchasers of the GKids release snagged a copy of this? I’m in Australia and have thought about using a third-party postal shipping service but fear the cost may be prohibitive.

Huh. Can you provide any more details about this exchange? I only see one person selling this on eBay currently and the listing specifies that there are English subtitles. YesAsia, Amazon, and Blu-ray.com also say there are English subtitles. I can also see a rip of the Blu-ray on back channels, and that has English subtitles. Basically, your comment here is the only thing I've seen suggesting otherwise. It would still be preferable though to see a picture of the back cover or to get direct confirmation from someone else that has played the disc
