WB held/are holding onto some of those, including EMPIRE OF THE SUN, which Criterion did have but WB recently pulled the license and are planning a 4K for 2027.

Honestly, STREETCAR 4K could just as easily come from Warner Archive.

I'm a little surprised that a licensor can (apparently) just 'pull' a license if the licensee hasn't done anything to breach their terms.

I'm holding out for a film I expected to come from Criterion if they ever a deal with Warner (aka 10-15 years ago now): Nicholas Ray's The Lusty Men. Would also not be surprised to see Criterion pick up Running On Empty, Prince of the City, Eastwood's Bird, Honkytonk Man, Some Came Running, An American in Paris, and the other two Tsui Hark films, The Lovers and Love in the Time of Twilight

I think licensors generally make it up to the licnesee when they take a title back.

Yeah, I'm surprised Criterion has never released a single Minnelli film, and only three by NIcholas Ray.

I know there was a report that Criterion/Janus were credited on RAISE THE RED LANTERN when the 4K restoration premiered at the Shanghai Film Festival but in retrospect, it may have been a mixup as there is zero mention of Criterion or Janus on Film Movement's site.

Though I'd far prefer Criterion releasing it over VinSyn (crazy how much the tables have turned!), everything we've seen so far indicates the latter.

Edit: Nicwood pointed out on the other forum that the report of Criterion being credited was correct.

Considering three of the four new Eclipse sets are directed or co-credited to women, that does seem to be a contributing factor in this revival. What other multi film collections of female-directed movies do Janus/CC hold?

And Amazon has been selling the YOLD blu-ray for $8.99 for several years now & I've held off from buying it up until a week ago, so I expect it'll get released in January. Since it looks to be a slow seller, I'm sure there's no rush to release it though.
