Even more questionable that they released AWUTI as a standalone bluray with no changes from the set or DVD standalone as a “new release” then.

You didn’t see standalone blus from the Three Colors Trilogy being touted around as new releases like this.

It's possible the rights weren't a done deal at that point, so they decided to get the crown jewel out ahead of any possible risk of losing them. Now it seems inevitable 4K restorations of all five will be undertaken.
