This just won a Grammy in the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media
Taika Waititi, with dead-on accuracy wrote:I guess they're just giving Grammys to anyone now!

For context this is responding to a ScreenRant post about Klara and the Sun ā€œreboundingā€ from being an omega-bomb with a whopping 78% Rotten Tomatoes audience score (now down to 75%). Hard to imagine a harder fall into abject embarrassment than his, god willing we’re finally reaching the point where he’s not getting indulged.

I guess the moral of the story is don't divorce your producer wife.

I can't think of anyone else at the moment who's such a victim of their own success. Waititi made an excellent Marvel film, one of the rare Marvels to have a true auteurist stamp, and ever since has bounced between bizarre passion projects and big budget flops without much zest to them. He seems to've lost the particular touch that made Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor Ragnarok such successful comedy dramas. And I say this as one of the minority of people who actually liked Jojo Rabbit--but that movie wasn't under control, and Thor Love and Thunder felt fake and kinda grotesque. Haven't seen his last two, but it doesn't sound like they have much magic to them. Waititi is a middle-brow director, but he had a very particular New Zealand comic sensibility, and he knew how to work a dramatic angle just enough to get some depth from it without getting sentimental. It made for fresh, charming movies. That fresh, charming quality seems to've left him, as well as his sense of humour, to judge by that embarrassing tweet.

I wish him well, but he's well and truly lost his touch.
