Hey, I like that one, SncDthMnky. Fits the overall classy paperback feel the new design seems to favor. Bravo.

Count me as one of the minority who likes criterion's cover. Here's a mock-up I made:

edit: gave it another go around, though I'm seeing that my idea isn't very appropriate for the film.

EDIT: Hot damn Greathinker, that's impressive. Is that original artwork? I'm terrible at original stuff. When I look at that I realize how weak my fonts are. I recognize both of yours, one is the Masters of Cinema font and the other is called Soviet, no? Ever since I got a new computer I don't have many fonts available, I need to go surfing and build up my library again.

Thanks. I use a tablet and work in photoshop. Graphic design is the area I study so I have that experience. Those are just regular PS CS fonts btw.

If I had any drawing skill whatsoever I'd get a tablet, but I'm mostly just good at working with already available elements.

I think I might fool around with some Criterion covers over the next few days. What fonts are the "C" and the tab, just to get the ball rolling...

just use the seven samurai CC art, and use the special selection tool to remove the black. make that a seperate layer and build your art underneath. if need be, just make your art, and then drop me a pm, and I can put the tab and C on it for you.

cool, ive used flash animation before and know how to work with layers to some degree. I'll pull out the copy of Adobe and try to get something made up for myself over thanksgiving. Probably won't post anything till i feel good about whatever I do. Thanks

The 'fan art' from SncDthMnky and Greathinker gives the Criterion version a run for its money! Kudos, guys, and if the CC people are reading this then get your designers to stop being LAZY and knock that wacky C out of the B!

Ok, I'm working on some fake art of a 6 disc Jules Dassin Collection, with Rififi, Naked City, Brute Force, Night and the City, and Thieves Highway.

I'm tossing around two titles for the set...

"Soft Hands, Sharp Nails"(quote from Thieves Highway) or "Millions of Stories, This has Five of them." comments or other suggestions would be appreciated.

Five Film Noir Classics

Of course Dassin doesn't like Brute Force. He has called it "stupid," and says that he wants "to forget all of the films [he] made for MGM." It doesn't seem very likely, considering his relationship with Criterion, that this is one that they would work on together.

might be ok if it was a little higher quality, I just found one actually. I also just noticed I put the apostrophe on thieves' highway in the wrong place...

That is really great, a lot of these covers are great. The only thing I would do would be to put Rififi as the first title, to make the list look better. I don't like how all the titles get increasingly longer then just jump to teh shortest, its distracting.

Thanks. I considered putting Rififi at the top, but it goes chronologically, as do the main men from the films going left to right along the top, so I didn't want to mess with that.
