One of the most wildly popular horror movies of all time, Stuart Gordon’s enduring splatter-comedy classic Re-Animator returns to Blu-ray in a stunning 4K restoration packed with special features!

When medical student Dan Cain advertises for a roommate, he finds one in the form of Herbert West. Initially a little eccentric, it some becomes clear that West entertains some seriously outlandish theories – specifically, the possibility of re-animating the dead. It’s not long before Dan finds himself under West’s influence, and embroiled in a serious of ghoulish experiments which threaten to go wildly out of control…

Based on H.P. Lovecraft’s classic terror tale ‘Herbert West – Reanimator’ and featuring a standout performance from Jeffrey Combs as the deliciously deranged West, Re-Animator remains the definitive example of ’80s splatter mayhem and one of the horror genre’s finest hours.

DATE. MATE. RE-ANIMATE.

The success of Stuart Gordon’s hit horror-comedy Re-animator meant that a sequel was all but inevitable. The resulting follow-up, Bride of Re-animator – this time helmed by director Brian Yuzna (Society, Return of the Living Dead 3) – would prove that there was a good deal more life left in the story of Dr. Herbert West and his ghoulish exploits.

It is 8 years since the Miskatonic massacre. Unperturbed by the disastrous outcome of his previous meddling with the dead, Dr. West (again played by Jeffrey Combs) continues his research into the phenomenon of re-animation; only this time, he plans to create life – starting with the heart of his young protégé Dan’s dearly deceased, Meg Halsey. Surely nothing could go wrong?

With special effects master Screaming Mad George (the man behind the infamous “shunting” sequence in Society) on hand to contribute a host of characteristically weird and wonderful creations – including zombified bats and a one-eyed finger spider – Bride of re-animator is a more than worthy successor to Gordon’s original cult classic.

This was 65% sold out two weeks ago, and is evidently now completely gone.

EDIT: At least the U.S. edition is.

It's a bit late now since it's sold out (so it's not like it's going to hurt the sales), but it seems that the 2.0 track on the Arrow release isn't the Stereo track it's supposed to be (as on the German release and as the Ultra Stereo logo at the end of the movie would point towards), but a Dual Mono one.

It seemed so far that Arrow would simply be using the same Stereo track than Capelight in Germany, but with extra cleaning performed to remove its infamous rustling / hiss / humming issue. However, it now seems they actually used another cleaner track, but which loses the stereo effects.

The Dual Mono track certainly has no rustling issue whatsoever anymore, but I'm curious to hear any formal confirmation about what happened here.

I don't know if this is a national thing, but I recently went to a Best Buy in suburban Chicago which had several copies of the as-of-yet unreleased standard edition of this in stock. I bought one of the copies, and it did just have the unrated cut on Blu-Ray and DVD, but it also has the booklet from the collector's edition.

I had a feeling Arrow US would get a hold of this.

Well done to them, securing such a popular title.

Not one of my favourites, much prefer King of the Ants and Edmond which I'd love to see get releases.

Wasn't as impressed as some by the Second Sight release, despite being 2k sourced, and think the Arrow encoding will be a good help.

Anyone know if Amazon Canada will have pre-orders of Re-Animator? The US Pre-Order is already up it seems, but no Canadian pre-order yet.

I don't believe there will be one. From Arrow's Facebook post, it was only getting a US release, not one available from Canadian distributors.
