Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Are there rumors that Bertolucci’s epic ‘1900’ could be going to Criterion as a 4K?

She's been talking about it for a while. I'll keep guessing until it finally happens.FrauBlucher wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2026 10:40 pmSuzanne Lloyd recently posted on facebook that this is coming sometime in the spring

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
I would love for Criterion to release 'Novecento' in their collection, but I imagine there isn't much internal consensus about putting out Bertolucci's work now that he's semi-canceled over the whole 'Last Tango in Paris' controversy. Incredibly, he only has two films in the collection after all these years!crimlaw wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2026 1:26 pm Are there rumors that Bertolucci’s epic ‘1900’ could be going to Criterion as a 4K?

I wouldn't be surprised if Vinegar Syndrome ends up doing 1900 considering they released Last Tango In Paris.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
The problem with The Last Tango In Paris stems from the content of the film too. All of this was known when Criterion upgraded The Last Emperor. The restoration screening was very popular (sold out with standby line), given the historical import of the film & the people involved in the film (besides just Bertolucci), Criterion would be foolish not to release it.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
I did consider Bad Education too for my guesses, ended up with All About My Mother instead but they're both Sony so Criterion could surprise us with a double bill. Another Sony possibility, a 4K upgrade of Only Angels Have Wings which would actually make me super happy.
They haven't revisited Terry Malick in a while so I almost went with a Badlands 4K for my WB December title.

I really do hope the Spike Lee titles Kino released will all come out via Criterion. I’d love to hear a commentary with him and his siblings on CrooklynClose The Door, Raymond wrote: Sun Sep 13, 2026 1:38 am Clockers 4k

Deadhead Miles was restored, so it’ll go to Vinegar Syndrome or CriterionFinch wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2026 12:35 am

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
"Bad Education" is part of an informal trilogy with "Law of Desire" and "Pain and Glory" centered around homosexual desire. If Criterion decides to release one of them, it should be a triptych box set in the style of 'A Film Trilogy by Ingmar BergmanFinch wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2026 12:35 am I did consider Bad Education too for my guesses, ended up with All About My Mother instead but they're both Sony so Criterion could surprise us with a double bill. I kind of wonder if Matthew Broderick was in the closet due to Torch Song Trilogy and not Ferris Bueller

Criterion like a zeitgeist release - fascists in the WH - can see it happening.Lowry_Sam wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2026 5:24 pm The problem with The Last Tango In Paris stems from the content of the film too. Predicting a UHD for La Maison des Bois seems awfully bold. I think it’s more likely they shoehorn that into the Eclipse line somehow.

I'd love this hypothetical set and not even wait for a 50% sale.Toby Dammit wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2026 12:32 pm "Bad Education" is part of an informal trilogy with "Law of Desire" and "Pain and Glory" centered around homosexual desire.
