Directed by: Wong Kar-wai
Hong Kong, 1962: Chow Mo-wan (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung Man-yuk) move into neighboring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are formal and polite—until a discovery about their spouses creates an intimate bond between them. At once delicately mannered and visually extravagant, Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love is a masterful evocation of romantic longing and fleeting moments. With its aching musical soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping-bin, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past decade of cinema, and is a milestone in Wong’s redoubtable career.

In the Mood for Love
In the Mood for Love is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.66:1. On standard 4:3 televisions, the image will appear letterboxed. On standard and widescreen televisions, black bars may also be visible on the left and right to maintain the proper screen format. Supervised by director of photography Mark Lee Ping-bin, this new high-definition digital transfer was created on a Spirit 2K Datacine from a 35mm interpositive. Image Systems' Phoenix was used for small dirt, grain and noise management, and flicker reduction, while MTI's DRS was used to clean up dirt, debris, and scratches and to fix splices, warps, and jitter.
The original 5.1 surround soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from the 35mm magnetic master. Clicks, thumps, hiss, and hum were manually removed using Pro Tools HD. Crackle was attenuated using AudioCube's integrated workstation.
