In 1998, director Hideo Nakata (Dark Water) unleashed a chilling tale of technological terror on unsuspecting audiences, which redefined the horror genre, launched the J-horror boom in the West and introduced a generation of moviegoers to a creepy, dark-haired girl called Sadako. The film's success spawned a slew of remakes, reimaginations and imitators, but none could quite boast the power of Nakata's original masterpiece, which melded traditional Japanese folklore with contemporary anxieties about the spread of technology.
A group of teenage friends are found dead, their bodies grotesquely contorted, their faces twisted in terror. Reiko (Nanako Matsushima, When Marnie Was There), a journalist and the aunt of one of the victims, sets out to investigate the shocking phenomenon, and in the process uncovers a creepy urban legend about a supposedly cursed videotape, the contents of which causes anyone who views it to die within a week - unless they can persuade someone else to watch it, and, in so doing, pass on the curse..

One year after the success of his genre-defining horror classic Ringu, director Hideo Nakata (Dark Water) returned to the world of viral video to deliver his own follow-up, re-teaming with much of his original cast and creative team. Picking up where its predecessor left off, Ringu 2 finds Mai (Miki Nakatani, Silk) on the trail of the missing Reiko, Ringu's heroine, following a string of deaths in which she appears to be implicated. Teaming up with one of Reiko's former colleagues, Mai delves ever deeper into urban legend surrounding the cursed videotape... and soon finds herself incurring the wrath of Sadako's vengeful spirit.
This brand new high definition release of Ringu 2 also includes Ringu's Tost original sequel, George lida's Spiral, which offers an alternative continuation of the saga.

Discover the horrifying truth behind Ringu's viral video in this spine-tingling origin story. Thirty years prior to the events of Ringu, teenager Sadako (Yukie Nakama, Shinobi: Heart Under Blade), plagued by nightmares and a suspicion that she has inherited her mother's psychic abilities, joins a drama troupe as a form of therapy. When the leading actress dies under mysterious circumstances, Sadako takes on the role, much to the consternation of her peers, who suspect her of being responsible for the death. As a string of supernatural events unfolds around the troupe, Sadako's latent power continues to manifest itself, paving the way tor a horrifying final confrontation the repercussions of which will be felt for generations.
Drawing influence from Carrie and other tales of teenage torment, Ringu 0 reimagines the Sadako myth as the tragic story of a misunderstood young woman, and in so doing brings the trilogy that defined a generation of horror cinema full circle.
