With a brilliant, layered script by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala (who also won an Oscar) and a roster of gripping performances, Howards End is a work of both great beauty and vivid darkness, and one of cinema’s best literary adaptations.

Howards End
Howards End is presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are normal for this format. Supervised by cinematographer Tony Pierce-Roberts and approved by director James Ivory, this new high-definition digital transfer was created on a C-Reality Datacine with Oliver Wetgate processing from the original 35mm interpositive. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, warps, jitter, and flicker were removed using the MTI’s DRS and Pixel Farm’s PFCLean system, and Digital Vision’s DVNR system was used for small dirt, grain, and noise reduction.
The soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from the 6-track magnetic soundtrack. Clicks, thumps, hiss, and hum were manually removed using the Pro Tools HD system. Crackle was attenuated using AudioCube’s integrated audio workstation.
